Process

Uber is working on some cool problems. As a software engineer, it excited me to try it. I reached out to a recruiter via LinkedIn.

Good:

  • Standard questions and decent food in the cafeteria.

(There is nothing else to write in this section.)

Cons:

  • Unorganized
  • Not open to new ideas
  • Unprofessional
  • Rude
  • Not on time

It's total chaos. Read below to see for yourself.

After the initial phone screen, I had to wait. I reached out again after 4 days, and they wanted me to fly in the very next day for face-to-face rounds. I declined due to the sudden invite. Again, there was no response from them for a week. I reached out again and was asked to fly in a couple of days, which I did this time (unorganized).

Coming to the face-to-face rounds:

  1. A room was booked for me for the whole day, but people kept coming in saying they had also booked the room during my breaks (unorganized).
  2. In one of the rounds, a DP question was asked, and I answered with a Greedy approach, which in this case works. Though the interviewer couldn't come up with a case where it fails, he kept saying it would fail. So, I ended up giving the DP solution (not open to ideas).
  3. After 2 rounds of interviews, the next round was supposed to start at 12:15, but nobody turned up until 12:40 (not on time).
  4. When I searched for my recruiter and reached out with this concern, she said the interview would happen by 1:00 or 1:15. I openly said I wanted to have lunch. Her reply was, "Didn't you have breakfast while coming?" (rude).
  5. When all the rounds, including the hiring manager round, were over, I called again and asked the recruiter, "What next?" Her reply was, "It's done, you can leave." It felt like I was in the middle of nowhere, with no idea how to exit the building as well (chaos).

I walked out happily, knowing I was not going to work in this firm whatsoever. Uber has lived up to its expectations.
