Senior Software Engineer Interview Experience - Boston, Massachusetts

Process

  1. Brief Conversation with HR. It was surprising she asked me questions such as: What is a DRY principle? What is the difference between an inner and outer join? and some basic questions about HashMaps. Pretty basic questions, I must say.

  2. The next round was a phone technical round with the Engineering Manager. I was asked to code in CoderPad, and they verified that the code ran. Then, they asked SQL questions, giving me all entities and data within them. Essentially, based on that, they asked me all twisted questions.

  3. Next, I was invited onsite. I had five rounds: one behavioral, one database round, one design round, one programming round, and one lunch. Lunch was ideally mixed with gauging your interest and your aspirations.

  4. I got the offer in the next three days.

Questions

Phone Round: Regarding shipping labels, parsing them and then calculating the total.

Onsite:

  1. How would you go about designing an MTBA network (Rail and Road network)? Follow-up: How would you keep track of user activities?

Onsite 2: Programming: Program a Roulette game and determine if you win or lose, having an initial amount. You need to also determine if it's really your day to play more or not.

Onsite 3: Database: Design a Cookbook DB and answer some questions based on that.
