Process

I never managed to go past the first round. I waited two weeks (after the first week, I got the usual mail saying that they don't let applicants wait more than two weeks and they were still reviewing my application) just to hear that they weren't moving me forward. The bad thing is that they said they couldn't give me any feedback, and the email was very impersonal (I guess it's fair when you're just saying no out of a gut feeling). That was quite disappointing.

Pros: My favorite part of working at Zapier so far is the people. Everyone I've worked with has been kind, low-ego, a strong communicator, and aligned with the values that Zapier stands for. I came from startups where onboarding was non-existent. Onboarding here has been extremely thorough, and I feel as though I've been set up for success. I appreciate how much attention to detail my manager has already put into understanding my personal and professional goals and helping me reach them. I love the autonomy and flexibility here as well.

Cons: Zapier relies a lot on written comms for information sharing, but processes change and docs can quickly fall out of date. A lot of communication happens in Slack, and it's easy to miss things.

Pros: Work-life balance is the most important factor for me when looking at jobs, so I'm happy that Zapier is great in this area. Some concrete examples of this are: * No-questions-asked PTO * Realistic delivery timelines * A good culture of disabling Slack notifications after work hours. Since Zapier is fully remote, there is also a great culture of knowledge sharing and asynchronous communication. The technology stack is relatively modern and interesting to work with. Base pay is very competitive. The company places great importance on DIBE (Diversity, Inclusion, Belonging and Equity), and is transparently making improvements on this.

Cons: Some growing pains are evident in goal-setting and change management. Discussions with lower-level ICs make it seem like more than a few teams struggle with aligning on wider company purpose and feel bogged down by tech debt accumulated over so many years.
