Zepto hired an external recruiter for this. I received a call from the recruiter asking for my application. No JD was shared, but I said I wanted to apply after the recruiter called three times.
For the next few weeks, there was no revert. Then the recruiter reached out again. This time I shared my availability, and then again there was no revert for a few weeks.
The third time, even after sharing availability, there was no confirmation until the interview day. Both the recruiter and Zepto felt no obligation to provide a confirmation with a time. I even called to check two days before, and then a day before, but received no response. On the interview day, I requested the recruiter to be a bit more professional and serious, but I still went forward with the interview on the same day (because I wanted the job), and then a formal confirmation was received.
In the interview, a panel of two joined. One of them never spoke after their introduction. The other panelist took over the interview and asked all questions.
Questions were majorly about JS fundamentals, React.js, React Native, and a few small coding tasks.
For the coding tasks, since the questions had only three to four minutes of time to solve, an ideal interviewer always explains what aspects would be considered while evaluating if the answer was correct. I do the same when I interview candidates. Here, there was no extra information. So, all coding responses were given with the consideration that a quick implementation that solves the problem (without importance to coding pattern) would be fine.
After the interview, when asked if there was feedback, the interviewer told me that my coding pattern needs to be worked upon. Though I believe most of the other questions were answered correctly, I thought this shouldn't be a decider.
Few days later, I received a call from the recruiter saying that my application was rejected. On asking for detailed feedback, the recruiter said she would get that from the team at Zepto. It's been about a week, and I've received no communication from either Zepto or the recruiter.
It feels like a series of calls that I shouldn't have received. I ended up wasting my time appearing for this interview.
My request to Zepto would only be about being professional at the least. If you aren't interested in hiring a candidate, save both of your times and cancel the interview. If you reject a candidate's application, at least take the responsibility of communicating it to the candidate. You can't not be serious about it. For you, it's just another candidate, but for the candidate, most times, it's what brings food to the table.
