Description For Senior Firmware Engineer

ADTRAN is seeking a Senior Firmware Engineer to join their Coherent Pluggable product unit. This role focuses on embedded software development for optical transceiver assemblies and plugs, requiring expertise in both software and hardware domains. The position offers an opportunity to work with cutting-edge fiber-based networking solutions at a global technology leader.

The ideal candidate will be responsible for all aspects of embedded firmware design and development, from architecture to implementation and testing. They will work closely with cross-functional teams including Optical, Hardware, and Test engineers in an Agile environment. The role involves writing device drivers for complex ASIC's and FPGA's, contributing to hardware design reviews, and developing automation scripts for firmware validation.

Responsibilities For Senior Firmware Engineer

  • Design, develop, and test embedded software for optical transceiver assemblies and plugs
  • Write device drivers for complex ASIC's, FPGA's, and other components
  • Contribute to hardware design and participate in hardware design reviews
  • Support initial turn-up of new hardware
  • Work with optical, hardware, and test engineers in an Agile environment
  • Develop automation scripts for firmware validation and testing
  • Develop user interfaces for transceiver assemblies and plugs
  • Assist in design and implementation of manufacturing test fixtures

Requirements For Senior Firmware Engineer

  • Bachelor's in Electrical/Computer Engineering or related
  • Proficient in C/C++ programming for embedded software
  • Experience with real-time operating systems
  • Familiar with ARM or other microcontrollers
  • Knowledge of UARTs, SPI and I2C protocols
  • Proficient with reading schematics and using oscilloscope
  • Proficient with source code control systems like git
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be authorized to work in USA
  • Ability to travel occasionally (<10%)
