Staff Software Engineer, Data Management - Governance

Airbnb, founded in 2007, has grown to over 4 million Hosts welcoming more than 1 billion guest arrivals globally. We're seeking a Staff Software Engineer to lead our data governance efforts within the Data Infrastructure organization. In this role, you'll develop and implement policies, standards, and processes to ensure the quality, accuracy, and security of our data assets. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams on data classification, lineage, quality, privacy, and retention. Key responsibilities include:

• Developing data governance policies and processes
• Implementing data governance frameworks and tools
• Establishing data privacy policies and procedures
• Creating data retention policies for legal compliance
• Conducting governance audits and assessments

We're looking for candidates with:

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• 9+ years in software engineering, focusing on data infrastructure
• Experience with data storage and processing technologies (Hive, Spark, Trino, Flink, SQL databases)
• Strong programming skills in Java, Python, or Scala
• Knowledge of data governance tools and frameworks
• Experience with workflow orchestration solutions
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
