Staff Web Engineer, Digital Accessibility

Airbnb is seeking a Staff Web Engineer specializing in Digital Accessibility to join their UI Foundation team. This role presents a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the accessibility of Airbnb's web platform, which serves millions of guests and hosts globally. The position combines hands-on development with strategic leadership in accessibility practices.

The role is part of the Digital Accessibility team, which works within the larger UI Foundation team contributing to Airbnb's design system and UI tooling. You'll collaborate closely with Product Engineering, QA, Design, and Product Marketing teams to develop inclusive user experiences. The team is involved throughout the product development lifecycle, from initial concept to final launch.

As a Staff Web Engineer, you'll lead the development of technical solutions ranging from tooling to foundational capabilities that scale accessibility practices across the organization. Your responsibilities include building automated testing tools, providing engineering leadership in accessibility standards, and mentoring other engineers in accessibility best practices. You'll also contribute to educational resources and guide multi-team accessibility improvement projects.

The ideal candidate brings 9+ years of industry experience with deep expertise in web technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern frameworks like React and TypeScript. Strong knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG), assistive technologies, and WAI-ARIA is essential. The role requires both technical excellence and strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional partners.
