Description For Controls System Development Engineer, Center for Infrastructure Software and Controls - Electrical

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. We're responsible for keeping the cloud running, supporting all AWS data centers, servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment. We're seeking talented individuals to join our diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, and operations managers.

As a Controls System Development Engineer, you'll be responsible for:

  • PLC programming and technical writing tasks
  • Electrical schematic interpretation and IO list creation
  • Full system development and scaling system design
  • OT networking and OS configuration
  • Performing root cause analysis of AWS-developed electrical switchgear and generator automation systems

Key responsibilities include:

  • Being a subject matter expert in low voltage switchgear breaker control and generator automation
  • Developing and programming sequence of operations and HMI graphics for electrical infrastructure automation projects
  • Maintaining a library of standard tested automation logic function blocks
  • Expertise in IEC61131-3 programming languages
  • Deep knowledge of electrical equipment, schematics, and programming concepts
  • Developing automation sequences and mechanical plant strategies
  • Understanding data center redundancy and electrical failure strategies
  • Leading collaboration across multiple teams
  • Creating and maintaining specification documents for global projects
  • Vendor selection and coordination
  • Interaction with AWS cloud services for data presentation and analysis
  • Global travel as needed

The ideal candidate will have a background in data center controls systems, IT infrastructure, networking, facility operations, electrical switchgear and generator automation, project management, and strong leadership skills.

  • 1+ years of designing or architecting new and existing systems experience
  • 3+ years of administrative experience in networking, storage systems, operating systems and hands-on systems engineering experience

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as C++, C#, Java, Python, Golang, PowerShell, Ruby
  • 3 years of experience in PLC development leveraging IEC-61131 Structured Text and Ladder Logic
