Description For Project Design Mechanical Engineer, Fleet Remediation Engineering

As an Amazon Fleet Remediation Project Design Mechanical Engineer, you will lead design projects in operational data centers, focusing on remediating issues, upgrading existing infrastructure, and adding new services. You'll be the primary engineering resource for these projects, providing lifecycle support from design through implementation.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Owning designs for data center upgrades and solutions that add infrastructure, capacity, improve availability, and increase sustainability
  • Performing design and equipment submittal reviews for data centers in your region
  • Interfacing with various teams to promote standards for consistency and reliability
  • Working on concurrent projects, potentially across multiple geographical regions
  • Acting as a technical subject matter expert during new remediation projects
  • Supporting construction, commissioning, operations, and turnover

The ideal candidate should:

  • Have strong engineering judgment and ability to provide designs despite uncertainty
  • Be detail and data-oriented with familiarity in design/construction processes
  • Have experience managing engineering projects and consultants
  • Build trust and relationships with different stakeholders
  • Manage design and as-built drawings and documents
  • Prepare and present progress reports
  • Be inclined to work in the field

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 1+ year of design experience with industrial or commercial engineering in Mission Critical facilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Coursework in commercial/industrial power systems and/or mechanical systems
  • Direct experience with mission critical facilities, especially data centers
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations for your region
  • Experience with construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
  • Ability to carry design concepts through to deployment/mass production
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment/design related to data center topology
