Description For System Development Engineer II, Traffic Engineering

Amazon's Discovery & Networking team is seeking a System Development Engineer to join their Cloud Connection Foundation team, focusing on operating and improving autonomous networking services. This role offers a unique opportunity to work with various Amazon teams including Alexa, Amazon.com, Kindle, and AWS teams.

The position combines technical expertise in cloud infrastructure, networking, and software development. You'll be working in a Linux environment, developing solutions using languages like Python, Golang, Java, and Ruby. The role requires strong troubleshooting abilities and expertise in networking fundamentals, including experience with load balancers, switches, and routers.

As a System Development Engineer, you'll be responsible for ensuring the reliability and scalability of Amazon's massive e-commerce platform. Your day-to-day activities will include creating OpEx automation tools, collaborating with service owners, and connecting with customers to understand and solve their networking challenges. You'll be part of an on-call rotation and work on mitigating incidents following established procedures.

The team's mission is to "make networking go away" by developing and maintaining products that abstract away connectivity pain points from customers. This role offers excellent career growth opportunities across multiple domains within Amazon's vast technical landscape.

The compensation is competitive, ranging from $116,300 to $201,200 per year based on geographic location, plus additional benefits including equity and comprehensive medical coverage. This position is based in New York City, offering access to diverse lunch options at Bryant Park Food Trucks and local restaurants.

The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, detail-oriented, and passionate about problem-solving. You'll need strong communication skills to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. If you're excited about improving AWS services and solving complex challenges in high-scale, high-velocity microservice architecture, this role presents an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact at Amazon.
