As a Product Design Engineer for the Watch team at Apple, you'll be part of a small, visible team of world-class Mechanical Engineers working on Apple's first wearable product line. You'll define and design the future of WATCH, working closely with cross-functional teams like Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Antenna, Reliability, Sensors, Environmental, and Marketing to bring future products to life. The WATCH Product Design team is responsible for all mechanical parts of the Watch in all sizes and materials, as well as metal mesh, metal link, and rubber bracelets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing and developing next-generation wearable devices
- Collaborating with various teams to innovate and solve complex engineering challenges
- Applying creativity and thinking outside standard conventions
- Traveling internationally (15%+) for work-related purposes
- Utilizing CAD and drawings (GD&T) for product design
- Designing plastic and metal parts with strong materials knowledge
- Implementing Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly principles
- Applying analytical and problem-solving skills to Mechanical Engineering challenges
- Working on mass-production projects
- Using FEA (Finite Element Analysis) in product development
- Applying statistical tools and techniques
- Collaborating with overseas manufacturers
The ideal candidate will have:
- BSME (Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering), MS preferred
- 2+ years of experience in detailed part and product design
- Strong skills in CAD and technical drawings
- Expertise in plastic and metal part design
- In-depth knowledge of materials
- Experience with Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly
- Proven analytical and problem-solving skills in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience in mass-production environments
- Working knowledge of FEA
- Proficiency in applying statistical tools and techniques
- Experience working with overseas manufacturers
