Description For Sensing Hardware Validation Engineer

The Sensing Hardware team at Apple develops groundbreaking sensors that are central to various Apple platforms, including iPhones, iPads, Audio, Macs, the Home ecosystem, and accessories. This role focuses on developing, characterizing, and validating sensor systems used across these platforms.

As a Sensing Hardware Validation Engineer, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and performance of Apple's innovative sensor technologies. You'll work with capacitive touch sensors, leading validation efforts from conception through product release. The position combines technical expertise in hardware validation with cross-functional collaboration, working alongside product design, test, firmware, system engineering, and product operations teams.

Your responsibilities will span from defining performance indicators and developing test scripts to conducting hands-on validation and troubleshooting. You'll lead infrastructure and automation efforts, design test setups, and contribute to the continuous improvement of sensor testing methodologies. The role requires both technical depth in sensor technologies and the ability to work effectively across teams to drive product excellence.

Responsibilities For Sensing Hardware Validation Engineer

  • Characterizing, integrating, and validating capacitive touch sensors
  • Define key performance indicators for sensor module and system-level testing
  • Develop test scripts for hardware validation and factory testing
  • Lead infrastructure and automation efforts for hardware testing
  • Design and develop hardware architectures for novel sensor test setups
  • Perform hands-on bench measurements for validation and troubleshooting
  • Conduct failure analysis to identify root causes
  • Evaluate new technologies and methods to enhance sensor testing
  • Document specifications for design, testing, and failure analysis processes
  • Business travel (up to 10%) to support product development and testing

Requirements For Sensing Hardware Validation Engineer

Python
  • BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience
  • Strong foundational knowledge in physics and electrical engineering
  • Experience in characterization and validation of hardware platforms and devices
  • Proficiency in Python or other scripting languages
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or related field
