Description For Principal IMU Engineer

Blue Origin, a pioneering space company founded with the vision of enabling millions of people to live and work in space for Earth's benefit, is seeking a Principal IMU Engineer to join their Advanced Concepts and Enterprise Engineering team. This role combines technical expertise in Inertial Navigation hardware, software, and sensor fusion with leadership responsibilities across all flight regimes for current and future spaceflight systems.

The ideal candidate will lead business-wide Inertial Navigation initiatives, develop sophisticated IMU systems, and provide technical leadership across Blue Origin's GNC teams. Responsibilities For Principal IMU Engineer

  • Lead business wide Inertial Navigation initiatives
  • Develop IMU characterization, calibration, qualification, and acceptance tests
  • Lead development and implementation of algorithms for IMU/INS and sensor fusion projects
  • Consult on enterprise-wide IMU/INS hardware and software documentation and training
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
  • Stay current with IMU and sensor fusion technology

Requirements For Principal IMU Engineer

Python
  • MS degree in Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
  • 10+ years of experience in hardware/software development for IMU/INS applications
  • Experience with IMU design, calibration, characterization, and environment testing
  • Deep knowledge of estimation theory and embedded systems application
  • Software development skills in MATLAB or Python
  • Good communication skills
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or legally admitted refugee/asylee
