The CDC Foundation is seeking a Data Engineer to play a crucial role in advancing their mission by designing, building, and maintaining data interfaces for public health organizations. This position is aligned with the Workforce Acceleration Initiative (WAI), a federally funded program aimed at helping the nation's public health agencies improve their information systems.
The Data Engineer will work within the Public Health Information Systems (PHIS) division under Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LA DPH). Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and supporting the implementation of HL7 data integration projects
- Designing and developing data integrations using tools like Mirth, Rhapsody, and custom development
- Acting as a technical Subject Matter Expert in Interoperability and Integrations
- Creating and managing data pipelines for efficient data flow, including ingestion, processing, and storage
- Driving adoption of FHIR standards and department-wide HL7 data integration platforms
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and design scalable solutions
The ideal candidate will have:
- A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or related field
- Minimum 5 years experience in healthcare IT with focus on HL7 development
- Strong knowledge of healthcare industry standards, HL7 v2, CDA, FHIR, and healthcare code sets
- Experience with SQL, programming languages (Python, JavaScript, C#, Java), and cloud computing platforms
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a virtual environment
This is a remote, full-time position based in the United States, offering a salary range of $103,500-$143,500 per year, plus benefits. The position is grant-funded with an end date of June 30, 2025.
