Software Engineer

The Center for AI Safety (CAIS) is a leading research and field-building organization focused on reducing societal-scale risks from AI. Working alongside their sister organization, the CAIS Action Fund, they address complex AI issues through technical, societal, and policy solutions. Their achievements include publishing a global statement on AI Risk signed by prominent figures in the field, leading an important AI safety bill (CA SB 1047), and operating a large compute cluster for global academic researchers working on AI safety.

CAIS is seeking a dynamic and highly skilled Software Engineer, preferably with startup experience, to take ownership of implementing key technical projects. The ideal candidate thrives in fast-paced environments, can build and adapt quickly, and consistently delivers high-quality, shippable code.

Key qualifications include:

• Prior experience building and shipping products, especially in startup environments
• Familiarity with cloud environments, database systems, Python, and JavaScript
• Ability to thrive in fast-paced settings and adapt quickly
• Deep motivation to mitigate AI risk and improve AI safety
• (Optional) Strong understanding of computer security
• (Optional) Experience with cryptography and decentralized applications
