Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer Intern for Summer 2025. This internship offers an opportunity to work on recommendation and personalization algorithms for Disney Streaming's suite of apps, including Disney+ and Hulu. As an intern, you'll collaborate with Engineering, Product, and Data teams to apply machine learning methods, explore innovative techniques, and optimize operational processes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement algorithms for personalization and recommendation systems
- Maintain algorithms deployed to production
- Develop and maintain ETL pipelines using tools like Airflow and Jenkins
- Deploy scalable streaming and batch data pipelines for petabyte-scale datasets
- Establish and maintain algorithm development, testing, and deployment standards
- Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to identify new personalization opportunities
Required Qualifications:
- Knowledge or experience in developing machine learning models and performing large-scale data analysis
- Experience writing scalable code (e.g., Python, Scala)
- Basic understanding of modern machine learning methods and models
- Experience or knowledge of deploying and maintaining pipelines (AWS, Docker, Airflow) and engineering big-data solutions
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AWS, Docker, Airflow, Databricks
- Knowledge of building and deploying full-stack ML pipelines
- Familiarity with metadata management and data governance principles
- Experience with cloud-hosted databases and streaming data pipelines
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
- Must be enrolled in an accredited college/university and returning to school following the internship
Additional Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Possess unrestricted work authorization
- Available full-time (40 hours/week) for the 12-week internship from May/June 2025 through August/September 2025
- Able to provide own housing and transportation in Santa Monica, CA or Seattle, WA
