Description For Lead Software Engineer, Ad Platforms

Disney Entertainment & ESPN Technology is at the forefront of reimagining magical viewing experiences for the world's most beloved stories while transforming their media business for the future. The Ad Platforms organization within Disney Entertainment and ESPN Technology is responsible for building, enhancing and maintaining the high-performance, distributed, microservice-based Advertising Platform across all Disney online properties, including Hulu and ESPN+.

The Forecasting team, under Ad Platforms, focuses on supporting Ads Inventory Forecasting business requirements. The Inventory Forecasting Platform provides unified inventory forecasting modeling and result accessing. This cross-domain team delivers E2E solutions covering areas from machine learning and big data to microservices and data visualization.

As a Lead Software Engineer in this role, you'll be working with cutting-edge technologies to process data at petabyte scale, designing and implementing cloud-based big data infrastructure, and leading development efforts for both batch and real-time processing systems. You'll be part of a team that builds proprietary technology ranging from ad serving and delivery to campaign management and reporting.

The role offers competitive compensation with base salary ranges varying by location:

  • Santa Monica/LA: $152,200 - $204,100
  • San Francisco: $166,800 - $223,600
  • Seattle: $159,500 - $213,900

Responsibilities For Lead Software Engineer, Ad Platforms

  • Contribute to a team of big data and backend engineers to deliver high value projects
  • Lead the development of large-scale data platform for batch and real-time processing
  • Lead the design of next-gen cloud based big data infrastructure
  • Balance architectural and design considerations
  • Advocate best engineering practices, including design patterns, CI/CD, code review and automated test
  • Collaborate with program managers, product managers, SDET, and researchers

Requirements For Lead Software Engineer, Ad Platforms

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, or related field
  • At least 7 years of professional programming and design experience in Scala, Java, Python etc.
  • 3+ years of big data development experience with technical stacks like Spark, Hive, SingleStore, Airflow, Kafka, Flink and AWS
  • Strong knowledge of system / application design and architecture
  • Experience of building industry level high available and scalable service
  • Experience with processing large amount of data at petabyte level
  • Passionate about technologies, and openness to interdisciplinary work
