Description For Civil Engineer

Foth is seeking a dedicated and forward-thinking Civil Engineer to join their Infrastructure Solutions business in Des Moines, IA. This role focuses on working with public agencies to solve challenges with built infrastructure, improving quality of life by helping people safely and efficiently travel, delivering clean water, and protecting public health. The Civil Engineer will provide support and develop technical traffic analysis for roadway/transportation projects, including highways, streets, and multi-modal facilities.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing travel demand forecasts
  • Performing technical traffic analyses
  • Identifying mitigation alternatives and safety countermeasures
  • Designing roadway improvement plans and traffic control plans
  • Designing Street Lighting and Optic Fibers Connections
  • Conducting field reviews and developing public outreach surveys
  • Presenting project findings to clients and at public meetings

Required qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • One year of transportation planning experience
  • Experience with proposal writing, GIS, Microstation, technical report writing, traffic operations and safety, and various traffic modeling software

Responsibilities For Civil Engineer

  • Develop travel demand forecasts for current and future conditions
  • Perform technical traffic analyses to identify traffic operations and safety related deficiencies for all modes
  • Identify mitigation alternatives or safety countermeasures to correct deficiencies
  • Design and develop roadway improvement plans, intersection concept drawings, and traffic control plans
  • Design Street Lighting and Optic Fibers Connections and produce plans and quantities
  • Perform field reviews of project study locations and develop public outreach surveys
  • Participate in and help present project findings in writing and at client meetings, technical group gatherings, and public meetings/hearings

Requirements For Civil Engineer

  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
  • One year of transportation planning experience
  • Experience with proposal writing for transportation projects
  • Experience with Geographic Information Systems
  • Experience with Microstation
  • Experience with Technical Report Writing
  • Experience with Traffic Operations and Safety
  • Experience with Traffic Modeling Software (Synchro, Vistro, and Sidra)
  • Knowledge of Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Highway Safety Manual (HSM), and ITE Trip Generation
