Description For Engineering Manager, GCE Control Plane, API Experience

Google is seeking an Engineering Manager for the GCE Control Plane, API Experience team. This role involves delivering the most reliable, secure, performant, and intuitive compute user experience in the industry. The manager will build, operate, and evolve the Google Compute Engine (GCE) Application programming interface (API) platform hosting 1000+ API for GCE. They will also build public APIs for Cloud to enable Google's developers to focus on their core business logic.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience, 8 years of software development experience, and 3 years in a technical leadership role. They should have experience with distributed systems, storage, databases, and Google Cloud Platform services.

Responsibilities include setting team priorities, aligning strategy across teams, managing performance and development of team members, developing technical goals and roadmaps, guiding system designs, and reviewing code.

  • Set and communicate team priorities that support the broader organization's goals
  • Align strategy, processes, and decision-making across teams
  • Set clear expectations with individuals based on their level and role
  • Meet regularly with individuals to discuss performance and development and provide feedback and coaching
  • Develop the technical goal and roadmap within the scope of Google's team(s)
  • Evolve the roadmap to meet anticipated future requirements and infrastructure needs
  • Guide and vet systems designs within the scope of the broader area
  • Write product or system development code to solve problems
  • Review code developed by other engineers and provide feedback to ensure best practices
