Google is proud to boast a network that provides service to millions of Internet users around the world. The Network Engineering team is responsible for operating that network reliably and at scale. As a Metro Network Deployment Engineer, you'll have a direct impact on design and feature enhancements to keep our systems running smoothly. You'll ensure that network operations are safe and efficient by monitoring network performance, coordinating planned maintenance, adjusting hardware components, and responding to network connectivity issues.
You'll be responsible for managing oversight and Quality Assurance (QA) of installation technicians for rack, stack, and installation of networking equipment. You'll test and commission routers, optical transport equipment, and other network devices in new and existing network nodes across Google's global network. You'll generate implementation plans and provide technical leadership and guidance during deployment activities.
Working with project management, network engineering, and the Engineering team, you'll identify potential problems in network installations, including facility power (AC/DC), cooling, security/access, rack layout, and cable management. You'll also own network documentation, updating and maintaining network drawings and plans, and contribute to developing work instructions or requirements documents for new or updated software-based workflows.
This role requires a Bachelor's degree in Network Deployment, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience, along with 3 years of experience in DWDM or TCP/IP or system design operations methodology. You should have experience with Network Installation, Network Configuration, Network Infrastructure, Network Operations, Optical Engineering and Operations, IP, and Project Management.
Preferred qualifications include experience directing field operation technicians, engineers, or vendors in a telecommunications working environment, collaborating across multiple levels and functions, knowledge of ISP/OSP Network Architecture and Data Center Architecture, and the ability to engage/influence tactical and strategic decision-making.
