Physical Infrastructure Process Technology Staff Engineer

Google's Platforms Team designs and builds the hardware, software and networking technologies that power all of Google's services. As a Physical Infrastructure Process Technology Staff Engineer, you will work on designing and evaluating data center systems, from chips to chillers. You'll be responsible for exploring new package, system, and manufacturing process architectures for Machine Learning (ML) systems, leveraging advanced technologies to enable scale-up performance of future ML generations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading innovation pathfinding for next-generation ML system physical design
• Influencing future products by providing expertise in packaging, manufacturing processes, and product design
• Identifying and scoping projects around innovation opportunities and technology risks
• Providing technical leadership in new infrastructure development products
• Leading execution of critical deliverables for large infrastructure development products

This role requires a blend of technical expertise in areas such as:

• Chip Package Interaction (CPI)
• Packaging materials and technologies
• Surface Mount Technology (SMT) processes
• Thermal and mechanical stress analysis
• 2.5D silicon interposer and silicon bridge technologies

You'll work with multidisciplinary teams, collaborating across different organizations and with various suppliers to enable new ML hardware systems. This position demands physical interaction with hardware in a simulated data center environment, utilizing Google labs, power, and safety equipment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design, with extensive experience in electro-mechanical systems and products. You should be comfortable with technical innovation, global cross-functional collaboration, and leadership.
