Description For Software Engineer, Quantum Device Test

HRL Laboratories is at the forefront of quantum information technologies, developing state-of-the-art quantum devices featured in top scientific journals. We are seeking a talented Software Engineer to join our Quantum Device Test team in Malibu, CA.

As a Software Engineer on our quantum device software team, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of quantum technologies. Your primary responsibility will be developing software for the automation and characterization of our cutting-edge quantum devices. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of software engineering and quantum physics.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing software for autonomous execution of complex experiments, measurements, and calibrations
  • Creating software for characterization and benchmarking of quantum devices
  • Building rich visualizations to showcase device characteristics and performance
  • Collaborating closely with experimental physicists and data engineers

The ideal candidate will have:

  • 5+ years of relevant software engineering experience
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with packages like Pandas, NumPy, and Plotly
  • Experience with relational databases and software engineering best practices
  • A solid understanding of computer science fundamentals
  • Experience working with physical hardware and in scientific disciplines

This role offers a competitive salary range of $132,765 - $165,983, plus bonus and benefits. It requires U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.

Responsibilities For Software Engineer, Quantum Device Test

  • Develop software for the autonomous execution of complex sequences of experiments, measurements, and calibrations
  • Develop software for characterization and benchmarking of quantum devices
  • Build rich visualizations to exhibit device characteristics and performance
  • Work closely with experimental physicists to ensure software enables required laboratory capabilities
  • Work closely with data engineers to define how to organize and store quantum device data

Requirements For Software Engineer, Quantum Device Test

Python
  • 5+ years relevant software engineering experience
  • Proficiency in Python
  • Experience with leading open source Python packages such as Pandas, NumPy, Plotly, etc.
  • Experience with one or more relational database system
  • Experience with software engineering practices such as version control and continuous integration
  • Solid understanding of core computer science fundamentals including data structures, algorithms, and computer architectures
  • Experience working with physical hardware
  • Experience with a scientific discipline
  • U.S. citizenship required
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Government security clearance as required
  • BA/BS + 6 years of industry experience, MS + 4 years of industry experience, or doctoral degree
