Hudson River Trading (HRT) is seeking a Senior Network Engineer to join their Networks team. This role involves designing, building, and maintaining the communications infrastructure that supports HRT's high-capacity, low-latency trading and data research environments across over 25 countries and 100 locations.
The ideal candidate will possess both project management and deep technical skills. Key responsibilities include:
- Product selection and design
- Routing configuration and troubleshooting
- Collaborating with Systems and Trading Operations teams
- Building, managing, and monitoring the low-latency trading network
- Analyzing and solving problems with immediate impact on worldwide operations
- Enhancing performance and capacity of global trading and research platforms
- Contributing to high-level strategy and technical details of global network architecture
Requirements:
- BS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related IT field
- 5-10 years of relevant experience, preferably in low-latency and high-frequency trading environments
- In-depth understanding of common layer 2 and layer 3 network protocols and best practices
- Experience with OSPF, BGP, PIM, IGMP
- Proficiency in managing Arista, Cisco, and other common networking devices
- Familiarity with low-latency microwave networks and optical transmission systems
- Experience in enterprise network design, capacity planning, and project management
- Expertise with packet decoding and analysis tools (tcpdump, Wireshark)
- Strong communication skills and ability to create technical documentation
- Unix/Linux command line and networking stack experience
- Excellent troubleshooting skills for various networking issues
- Understanding of datacenter power consumption and cooling
- Knowledge of fiber optics technology and cabling standards
- Willingness to solve technical problems in the field
- Collaboration skills and ability to admit mistakes
Desired skills:
- Experience with firewalls, VPNs, and NAT
- Familiarity with configuration management tools (Ansible, Salt)
- Knowledge of Python, Prometheus, Grafana, ELK, GitHub
- Experience with public cloud networks (AWS, GCP, Azure)
HRT offers a competitive compensation package, including:
- Annual base salary range of $150,000 to $250,000
