Founding Research Engineer

Hyperspell is building the future of secure, seamless data access for AI applications. Our platform, a Data-as-a-Service solution, will enable AI powered apps to connect safely and efficiently to users' personal data across emails, documents, calendars, and more. By simplifying data integration, ensuring robust security, and providing user controlled access, Hyperspell will empower developers to build apps that harness personal data without complex setup.

As a Founding Research Engineer at Hyperspell, you'll take on the challenge of developing new theories, tools, and algorithms to support our platform's unique data processing and knowledge extraction needs. You'll have a unique opportunity to contribute to Hyperspell's theoretical and technical foundation. For this platform to succeed, we need to develop new methods and structures, such as general purpose knowledge graphs, that don't fully exist yet. You'll approach complex challenges with the rigor of a researcher while staying focused on producing practical, working solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

• Keeping up with research to follow and evangelize best practices in RAG and knowledge graph construction
• Inventing theory if it doesn't exist yet: research, prototype, implement, and test novel approaches
• Designing general purpose knowledge graphs that operate efficiently across a wide range of data types and applications
• Balancing research with practical implementation, focusing on building solutions that work in production
• Collaborating on core infrastructure with data engineers, NLP/AI engineers, and other team members
• Optimizing for scalability and robustness to handle real-world, high-volume data
• Contributing to the engineering culture by setting high standards for innovative problem-solving

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguous, cutting-edge environments and can balance rigorous research with hands-on engineering. You'll have the opportunity to shape the technical roadmap, work closely with other founding engineers, and play a critical role in defining Hyperspell's approach to knowledge representation and data accessibility.
