Description For Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Instrumentation and Controls Engineer with mechatronics experience to work with a team responsible for designing, installing, programming, testing and troubleshooting automation and controls for mechanical handling systems. This position offers high engagement and collaboration with cross-functional teams. The ideal candidate has cross-discipline competence in mechanical and electrical design for system integration, as well as understanding software-hardware interdependencies. Key responsibilities include developing mechanical controls programming using Allen Bradley PLC, providing engineering design input, collaborating with teams in real-time, assisting in component selection, performing debugging and root cause analysis, and managing industrial network devices. Qualifications include a B.S. in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering, 2+ years of relevant experience (or recent graduates with relevant project experience), knowledge of control systems, sensors, actuators, and industrial protocols. The role offers competitive compensation ($90,000 to $110,000 for Alameda, CA), benefits including medical, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid vacation. Responsibilities For Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

  • Develop mechanical controls programming using Allen Bradley PLC
  • Programming in IEC 61131 languages
  • Provide engineering design input for electrical, mechanical and control systems
  • Collaborate with Engineering Teams in real time
  • Assist in selection and procurement of electrical and electro-mechanical components
  • Perform debugging and root cause analysis for complex software and hardware integration problems
  • Conduct testing and debugging of mechanical handling systems
  • Prepare and give oral presentations to external stakeholders
  • Manage devices on industrial networks
  • Define requirements for user-control system interaction
  • Document practices for interdisciplinary collaboration

Requirements For Instrumentation & Controls Engineer

Python
  • B.S. degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Electronics Engineering
  • 2+ years of relevant work experience preferred
  • Understanding of feedback control system design, system identification, signal processing
  • Knowledge of sensors, actuators, and control systems
  • Knowledge of stepper motors, servo motors, and feedback sensors
  • Understanding of electrical, electronics and mechanical drawings
  • Knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers and IEC 61131
  • Proficiency in computer methods for data acquisition, control, and analysis
  • Knowledge of industrial protocols and networking (plus)
  • Experience with Python, C#, C++ (plus)
  • Knowledge of database administration (plus)
  • Experience with Inductive Automation or Human Machine Interface development (plus)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Problem-solving skills and safety prioritization
