Description For Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Machina Labs, founded in 2019 by aerospace and auto industry veterans, is a smart manufacturing company based in Los Angeles, California. Enabled by advancements in artificial intelligence and robotics, Machina Labs is developing software-defined factories of the future. The company's mission is to develop modular manufacturing solutions that can be reconfigured to manufacture new products simply by changing the software. Currently, they are working on building the first commercial robotic sheet metal forming machine.

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer at Machina Labs, you will be responsible for creating, designing, and improving mechanical systems, components, and products. You will play a key role in the product development process, ensuring that products meet high quality standards, are reliable, and perform optimally. Your responsibilities will include:

  1. Designing and developing mechanical systems and components using CAD software.
  2. Creating detailed models, drawings, and specifications.
  3. Selecting appropriate materials, determining dimensions and tolerances, and ensuring functionality and safety.
  4. Generating technical documentation, reports, and specifications.
  5. Collaborating with cross-functional teams and contributing to project planning.
  6. Managing timelines and resources.

The ideal candidate will have proven experience in mechanical design and development, proficiency in Solidworks CAD software, experience with sheet metal and welded structure design, and strong project management skills. Experience with robotics, electrical systems design, and FEA simulation using Solidworks Simulation is a plus.

  • Experience with machining, milling and turning
  • Experience with change management systems like Solidworks PDM and PLM systems
  • Experience with prototyping, testing and validation of mechanical systems
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on quality and continuous improvement
  • Strong project management skills
  • Self-motivated, adaptable, and willing to take initiative
