BigBox VR, the team behind POPULATION: ONE, is seeking an Engineering Manager for the next generation of Virtual Reality games. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who loves the iterative technical and creative process, understands products holistically, and can contribute creatively. They should make engineering trade-offs aligned with business objectives, embrace teamwork, and solve problems independently. The role requires hands-on experience with common engineering and game development practices, and the ability to manage and support highly-skilled programmers.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing specific feedback and having regular one-on-one meetings as an Engineering Coach
- Focusing on team goal achievement by removing obstacles and being a resource
- Engaging in active listening, sharing information transparently, and encouraging open dialogue
- Setting clear goals and ensuring the team understands how their work fits into the larger picture
- Using technical skills to understand team challenges and provide informed guidance
- Supporting career development and discussing performance with team members
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience
- 5+ years as an engineering leader in game development or multiple shipped games
- Wide knowledge of software development practices
- Expertise in adapting to various communication and work styles
- Demonstrated history of working well with cross-functional teams
- Experience organizing and leading meetings for planning, scheduling, and discussion
- Expertise in growing and mentoring teams
- 2+ years of management experience
Preferred qualifications include working knowledge of 3D math, experience with AR or VR, and expertise managing Graphics Engineers or Server Engineers.
