Description For Language Engineer

Microsoft AI is seeking a detail-oriented Language Engineer to help build the next wave of capabilities for their personal AI, Copilot. The role involves working collaboratively with data scientists, AI researchers, engineers, designers, and product managers to discover issues, define policy, evaluate language, collect data, and improve the Large Language Models powering Copilot.

The ideal candidate should have a strong understanding of language principles, passion for conversational AI, positive energy, empathy, and kindness. They should be highly effective, take initiative, and enjoy building world-class consumer experiences in a fast-paced environment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Extracting insights from extensive language datasets
  • Sharing Data Science and Product Analytics Insights in Weekly Product Reviews
  • Building taxonomies and curricula for data labeling
  • Prompt engineering for AI model training and evaluation
  • Influencing the broader Copilot product roadmap

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 2+ years experience in linguistics, computer science, writing, editing, education, or library science (or equivalent experience/research)

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5+ years experience in product/service/project/program management
  • Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, SQL)
  • Exceptional public speaking and communication skills
  • Experience with Machine Learning or Large Language Models
  • Proficiency in multiple languages
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
