Microsoft's Azure Fiber team is seeking a Principal Cloud Network Engineer to lead the strategic expansion and operational excellence of their global optical network infrastructure. This role is critical in supporting Microsoft's cloud services, including Azure, Teams, Xbox, Office, Bing, and OpenAI's ChatGPT. The position focuses on developing and implementing a global change management framework for both solid core and hollow core fiber networks, while integrating cutting-edge AI-based network management software.

The role combines infrastructure design and expansion to support AI initiatives, along with implementing AI-based software tools for buildout and operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining network reliability, ensuring high-quality dark fiber assets, and leading change management processes. Responsibilities For Principal Cloud Network Engineer, Azure Fiber

  • Lead the implementation of a global change management framework for fiber networks
  • Monitor and maintain reliability of solid core and hollow core fiber networks
  • Integrate AI-based software tooling into operations and change management frameworks
  • Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) for system monitoring and problem resolution
  • Create and document process and automation improvements
  • Work closely with senior engineers on projects enhancing customer satisfaction
  • Support integration of hollow core and solid core fiber technologies

Requirements For Principal Cloud Network Engineer, Azure Fiber

Linux
  • 9+ years technical experience in optical network design, development, planning, operations and automation
  • 8+ years of technical experience on optical system design, validation, and testing
  • Bachelor's/Master's/Doctorate Degree in Optical Engineering, Information Technology, or related field
  • Experience with coherent, direct-detection, and WDM technologies
  • Must pass Microsoft Cloud Background Check
  • Experience delivering optical network designs into production
