The Artificial Intelligence (AI) Frameworks team at Microsoft develops the AI software used to train and deploy the world's most advanced AI models. We collaborate with our hardware teams and partners to build the software stacks for Microsoft's next-generation supercomputers and the new Maia-100 AI accelerator. We work closely with ML researchers and developers to optimize and scale out model training and inference.

As a Principal Software Engineer on this team, you will partner with engineers across AI Frameworks to understand and optimize and scale day to day workflows that are reliant on engineering systems (build, CI/CD, test, security, and process). Our success is measured in developer productivity across the organization while meeting rigorous security and test requirements.

This is a technical role requiring hands-on software design and development skills. We're looking for someone with a demonstrated history of solving complex technical problems and is motivated to tackle the hardest problems in building a full end-to-end AI stack. An entrepreneurial approach and ability to take initiative and move fast are essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Apply engineering principles for defining robust and maintainable architectures and designs.
  • Collaborate broadly across multiple disciplines from hardware designers to ML developers.
  • Help establish and drive the adoption of good coding standards and patterns.
  • Perform software development in C/C++, Python, YAML, Powershell, and other languages.
  • Identify requirements, scope solutions, estimate work, schedule deliverables.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
  • 3+ years' experience with any of the following: CMake, CI/CD, Azure DevOps, Azure, Cloud Security.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Solid foundation in software engineering principles and architecture design
  • Intellectual curiosity and passion about learning new technologies
  • Cross-team collaboration skills
  • 2+ years' experience with CI/CD systems, build systems, and Linux development
  • Exposure to cloud security and Azure

This role offers a competitive salary range and excellent benefits, including industry-leading healthcare, educational resources, savings and investments, parental leave, and generous time off.
