Software Engineer, L5, Video Algorithms

Netflix is seeking a Software Engineer, L5, in Video Algorithms to improve video encoding and processing algorithms. You'll design and prototype encoding algorithms, study current workflows, conduct research on next-generation image and video coding, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. The role requires expertise in video compression, image processing, and software development. You'll work on exciting video encoding problems to enhance Netflix videos for millions of viewers worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and prototype encoding algorithms and software workflows
• Improve quality and reduce bandwidth requirements of video streams
• Conduct research on next-generation image and video coding
• Collaborate with academic research groups and participate in conferences
• Work with cross-functional teams to implement innovations

Requirements:

• 5+ years experience in multimedia software development
• BS in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering (MS or PhD a plus)
• Proficiency in Python and/or Java and object-oriented programming
• Strong understanding of video compression and processing (H.264/AVC, HEVC, AV1)
• Solid background in image and signal processing

Preferred Skills:

• Experience with large-scale distributed systems and cloud-computing
• Software performance optimization
• Involvement in open-source multimedia projects
• Image and video quality assessment experience
