Probably Genetic is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to join their team in San Francisco. This role will be pivotal in establishing a new Machine Learning function and team, reporting to the Machine Learning Lead. The ideal candidate will have an advanced degree in Computer Science, AI, Bioinformatics, or a related field, with a minimum of 4 years of experience in machine learning.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing groundbreaking machine learning systems to change the lives of patients with severe, complex diseases
- Shaping and executing the machine learning strategy
- Designing and orchestrating ML experiments to improve patient identification models
- Working closely with engineering, growth, and business development teams
- Owning key patient finding metrics
The role requires expertise in computer vision, large language models (LLMs), classical ML methods, and other technologies. Experience with language model implementation, specifically using LLMs for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and complex automation workflows, is a plus.
Probably Genetic offers a competitive salary range of $137,000 - $202,000 annually, along with equity, flexible time off, hybrid work arrangements, quarterly team retreats, and comprehensive benefits. This is a hybrid role requiring on-site work 3 days a week in San Francisco. Local candidates only, as relocation is not offered.

Requirements For Machine Learning Engineer
- Advanced degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Bioinformatics, or a related field with a strong emphasis on machine learning
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in machine learning
- Deep understanding of statistics and Bayesian modeling
- Experience in training deep learning and computer vision models as well as classical ML models
- Experience in designing and maintaining robust machine learning pipelines
- Excellent communication skills
- Experience in managing complex project and experiment timelines
