Description For Engineer, Senior - Data Engineering

We are looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Senior Data Engineer. As part of the IoT (Internet of Things) team you will be working on the next generation of IoT products. This role includes research and analysis of data products for next generation IoT products. Develop prototypes and proof of concepts to evaluate incremental as well as radical new architectures. Develop reusable frameworks that are scalable, available, and secure.

Data engineers within Qualcomm are dedicated to building, evolving, and operating rapidly changing, secure and resilient systems at scale. Our engineers participate in the entire service lifecycle from design through the development and testing process to production support and operations. Our practice is to bring the best-of-show development techniques to operational tasks.

In this role:

  • You will be responsible for design and develop next generation data platform for IoT products.
  • You will be investing your time into solving hard problems and ensuring high code quality, availability, scalability, and security of our data services.
  • You will be building scalable data system and common frameworks.
  • You will be responsible building the MVP in shorter time span.
  • You will be working closely with stakeholders to provide status, iterative releases, and make design recommendations throughout the development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field and 2 - 6 years of Data Engineering or related work experience.
  • 2+ years of experience contributing to the development and design (Data Pipelines, Data Modelling, Data Quality, Data Observability) of new and current systems.
  • 2+ years of experience in working data engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years of hands-on experience with AWS Suite of services (EC2, IAM, S3, CDK, Glue, Athena, Lambda, RedShift, Dynamo DB, Snowflake, RDS, Apache Spark) or equivalent services from GCP, Azure
  • 1-3 years of expertise in Messaging system preferably Apache Kafka.
  • 1-3 years of expertise in scheduling data flows using Apache Airflow
  • 1-3 years of experience with Python or equivalent programming using OOPS, Data Structures and Algorithms
  • 1-3 years of experience with SQL and/or NoSQL databases
  • 1-3 years of experience with CI/CD and DevOps using Jenkins
  • 1+ years of experience with Event driven architecture specially on Change Data Capture
  • Hands on Experience in Apache Spark, SQL, Redshift (or) Big Query (or) Snowflake, Databricks
  • Experience in building the common reusable services across the data processing systems.
  • Attitude and aptitude to learn new technologies in a fast-paced environment with a "can do" attitude
  • Should have the ability to work and contribute beyond defined responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and inter-personal skills with deep problem-solving skills

Nice to Have:

  • Exposure or experience in other cloud platforms (Azure and GCP)
  • Experience working of large-scale distributed systems and databases such as Hadoop, Spark, Presto
  • Working experience on Data Lakehouse platforms (One House, Databricks Lakehouse)
  • Working experience on Data Lakehouse File Formats (Delta Lake, Iceberg, Hudi)
  • Working experience on Presto (or) Trino
  • Working experience on Apache Flink, DBT
  • Working experience on real time analytics using Druid (or) Pinot
  • Working experience on Data Mesh Architecture.
