Description For Linux Engineer III - Night Shift

Rackspace, a leading provider of IT as a service in today's multi-cloud world, is seeking a Linux Engineer III for a night shift position. This role is part of the Private Cloud - Delivery – Professional Services team and offers a hybrid work arrangement based in Gurgaon, India, with remote work options.

As a Linux Engineer III, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing complex OS environments, with a focus on Linux systems. Your expertise will be crucial in designing, implementing, and troubleshooting highly available systems. You'll work with a variety of technologies, including server hardware, networking solutions, and cloud platforms like Azure, AWS, and GCP.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Applying your strong knowledge of OS, including Server Failover Clustering, Active Directory, and IIS
  • Leveraging your proficiency in MSSQL Server and virtualization technologies such as VMWare, OpenStack, and Hyper-V
  • Utilizing your scripting skills in PowerShell, Python, PHP, or Go to automate and optimize processes
  • Applying project management methodologies and process improvement best-practices
  • Working flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required by the business

The ideal candidate will have 5-7 years of experience in OS Systems Engineering and Administration, along with relevant certifications such as RHCE for Linux specialization and MCSE for Windows specialization. A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related technical field is preferred, but equivalent experience may be considered.

  • Work on OS systems engineering and administration
  • Design, implement, analyze, and troubleshoot highly available systems
  • Work with various hosting environments: web servers, database servers, mail servers, name servers
  • Manage and work with virtualization technologies and cloud platforms
  • Apply project management methodologies and process improvement best-practices
  • Develop scripts using PowerShell, Python, PHP, or Go
  • Work flexible hours including weekends, evenings, and holidays as required

  • Strong knowledge of server hardware, networking, backup, and storage solutions
  • Strong knowledge of designing, implementing, analyzing, and troubleshooting highly available systems
  • Strong understanding of services and protocols commonly used in hosting environments
  • Proficient knowledge of MSSQL Server
  • Proficient knowledge of Virtualization Technologies (VMWare, OpenStack, and Hyper-V)
  • Proficient knowledge of Cloud Platform Products (Azure/AWS/GCP)
  • Proficient knowledge and applied experience of Project Management methodologies and Process Improvement best-practices
  • Intermediate scripting competency in PowerShell, Python, PHP, or Go
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or related technical field (or 4 years additional related experience)
  • MCSE for Windows specialization
  • RHCE for Linux specialization
  • 5-7 years of experience in OS Systems Engineering and Administration
