Description For Staff Design Engineer

As a Staff Design Engineer on our Structures team, you'll play a crucial role in designing, analyzing, testing, and manufacturing our launch vehicle integrated structures and flight mechanisms. You'll have hardware ownership for the full product lifecycle and the opportunity to validate your designs through testing at our state-of-the-art factory in Long Beach, CA.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing vehicle structures from conceptual to critical design phases
  • Creating and revising drawings based on engineering or manufacturing changes
  • Managing vehicle BOM configuration, mass inputs, and part release schedules
  • Defining and managing interfaces between vehicle subsystems
  • Developing design process improvements through simplification or automation

To excel in this role, you should be self-motivated, adaptable, and able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential, as you'll be collaborating with cross-functional teams and leadership. Your advanced CAD skills will be crucial for managing configuration standards for our Terran R vehicle and mentoring other design engineers.

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related technical discipline
  • 8+ years of related experience
  • Experience designing and managing large CAD assemblies and associated drawings
  • Familiarity with ASME Y14.100, Y14.5, Y14.41 standards
  • Proficiency in NX and Teamcenter

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience in development, packaging, and configuration management of complex hardware products
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering design, analysis, manufacturing, and testing
  • Understanding of aerospace vehicle fabrication and assembly techniques
  • Excellent project management skills
