Description For Structures Design Engineer II

At Relativity Space, we're building the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and becoming America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Our long-term vision is to create humanity's industrial base on Mars, starting with designing, building, and flying rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit here on Earth.

As a Structures Design Engineer II, you'll be part of the Structures team responsible for the design, analysis, testing, and manufacturing of our launch vehicle integrated structures and flight mechanisms. You'll have hardware ownership for the full product lifecycle and the opportunity to validate your hardware through testing at our factory of the future in Long Beach, CA.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Innovative conceptualization of structural load paths and design for complex structures
  • Reviewing static & dynamic load inputs, material properties, and structural systems requirements
  • Analysis and sizing of flight structures
  • Developing and supporting hardware test campaigns
  • Supporting manufacturing process development

You'll be designing flight components for our upcoming Terran R vehicle using NX/TeamCenter, performing analysis using Nastran, ANSYS, and/or hand calculations, creating and releasing drawings, and supporting fabrication of your components. You'll own your design from requirements to production.

To be successful in this role, you should be self-motivated, adaptable, and able to lead your own projects to completion in a fast-paced environment. Ideally, you have significant mechanical or structural design experience and a proven track record of completing collaborative projects effectively.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years of experience in a design engineering role
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline
  • Significant experience with industry-standard CAD packages (NX, Creo, or Solidworks)
  • Working knowledge of structural analysis and testing
  • Fundamental knowledge of structures strength, stability, and fatigue failure mechanisms
  • Fundamental knowledge of additive and traditional manufacturing processes
  • Full life cycle project ownership experience

Nice to have:

  • 3+ years of mechanical or structural design & analysis experience
  • Extensive experience with NX/TeamCenter
  • Expertise using Nastran and ANSYS
  • Experience with GD&T and drafting

Join us on this extraordinary journey to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals.
