Description For Avionics Design Engineer (Harness)

SpaceX is seeking an Avionics Design Engineer (Harness) for their Starlink team in Redmond, WA. This role involves owning harness design from concept to production for Starlink vehicles. The engineer will develop electro-mechanical designs, create schematics, perform analysis and testing, and interface with production teams. They'll work on pushing wire harness design boundaries for mass and cost savings.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing wire harness designs in 3D NX CAD environment
  • Generating electrical schematics for flight and qualification designs
  • Owning vehicle-level harnessing mechanical assemblies
  • Performing mechanical and electrical testing
  • Documenting designs and communicating results
  • Creating manufacturing documentation and drawings
  • Interfacing with production and integration teams
  • Conducting R&D investigations and trade studies

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in engineering, experience with CAD and FEA software, and preferably 1+ years of hands-on project experience. Proficiency with Siemens NX and Teamcenter is preferred. The role requires strong teamwork skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work long hours when necessary.

  • Document and communicate design, analysis, and testing results
  • Create and release harnessing manufacturing documentation and drawings
  • Interface with harness production and integration teams
  • Conduct R&D investigations and trade studies for wire harness design improvements

Requirements For Avionics Design Engineer (Harness)

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline
  • Experience with CAD and FEA software packages
  • Proficiency with Siemens NX and Teamcenter (preferred)
  • 1+ years of hands-on project experience with complex mechanical systems (preferred)
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational, written, and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work long hours and weekends as necessary
  • Willing to travel up to 30% of the time
  • Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible to obtain required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State (ITAR requirements)
