Founding Engineer

Sphinx is a well-funded YC startup from the F24 batch building AI compliance analysts for banks and fintechs. We're using AI agents to automate the manual work of compliance officers – an area where financial institutions spend $30B annually. Our AI agents have already reduced manual reviews by 87% in some cases.

As our first founding engineer, you'll work directly with the founders to shape the future of the company. You'll be taking the lead on one of two major projects:

1. A Generalizable Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Agent

• Operating in an industry where mistakes cost a minimum of $250k
• Building better computer-use capabilities than Claude
• Implementing complex ML systems from notebook to production

1. A Knowledge Graph of All the Bad People in the World

• Leveraging LLMs, graph databases, and website-agnostic scraping
• Building systems to handle millions of pages per day at scale
• Working with Python, Django, Docker, Postgres, AWS

The ideal candidate will be:

• Ego-free and team-oriented
• Hard-working and ready for an intense, demanding role
• A speedy coder who can design simple solutions for complex problems
• Client-driven and focused on building what people want
• Self-driven with strong ownership mentality

We're in-person in SF but flexible on initial work location and provide relocation support. You'll be joining a strong technical founding team including a former Head of Engineering who scaled a company to $12M ARR and a technical CEO who built major cost-saving systems at Amazon.
