Tesla is seeking an Applications Engineer to join their Energy Applications team, focusing on telemetry and data reporting for industrial battery storage systems and renewable power plants. This role combines engineering expertise with energy sector knowledge, working at the intersection of sustainable energy and advanced technology.
The position offers an opportunity to work on cutting-edge energy storage solutions while contributing to Tesla's mission of accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy. You'll be responsible for developing, testing, and validating features for Tesla Energy projects, including utility-scale battery power plants.
As a key technical member of the Applications Engineering team, you'll work with various stakeholders, from customers to development teams, ensuring Tesla's energy solutions meet industry standards and requirements. The role requires a strong understanding of energy systems, regulatory requirements, and technical specifications.
The compensation package is competitive, ranging from $104,000 to $222,000 annually, plus additional benefits including medical coverage, 401(k) matching, and stock purchase options. Responsibilities For Applications Engineer, Telemetry & Data Capture
- Become familiar with utility and ISO/RTO transmission and distribution interconnection requirements
- Gain in-depth product knowledge on Tesla energy storage system telemetry and data collection capabilities
- Formulate feedback to stakeholders and policy makers for industry standards
- Collect stakeholder input and define requirements for software and firmware development teams
- Develop technical documentation for customers and teams
- Support new Tesla Energy software features through specifications and test plans
- Provide technical support internally and externally for Tesla products deployment
Requirements For Applications Engineer, Telemetry & Data Capture
- Degree in Engineering discipline with 2+ years' work experience
- Knowledge of Energy systems including meters, inverters, SCADA controllers, and network systems
- Experience with digital fault recorders or event capture
- Understanding of controls and communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850, OPC UA)
- Familiarity with Energy industry standards
- Programming skills in Python, C, C++, RUST, GO (plus)
- Detail oriented and self-motivated
- Ability to work independently and in teams
