Tesla's Abuse Testing & Engineering internship program offers an exceptional opportunity to work on cutting-edge battery technology and safety testing. As part of the Cell Engineering team, interns will be involved in pushing battery systems to their limits through electrical, mechanical, and thermal stress testing. Responsibilities For Internship, Abuse Testing & Engineering, Cell Engineering (Summer 2025)

  • Conduct destructive testing of batteries at pack, module and cell level
  • Perform electrical, mechanical, and thermal stress testing on battery systems
  • Provide rapid feedback to inform designs early in development
  • Analyze and understand system performance under abusive conditions
  • Work with specialized equipment for battery testing
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, thermal, and firmware engineers
  • Conduct root cause analysis and recreation testing of failure modes

Requirements For Internship, Abuse Testing & Engineering, Cell Engineering (Summer 2025)

Python
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer, combustion and electrical
  • Experience with materials characterization
  • Experience with CAD (Catia V5, V6 or Solidworks)
  • Experience with LabVIEW, MATLAB, Python, or other programming languages
  • Experience with electrical systems (PCB's, resistors, voltage)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods for prototyping
  • Must be hands-on with assembly, fabrication, instrumentation, and electrical troubleshooting
