Description For Internship, Manufacturing Automation Controls Engineering, Powertrain (Winter/Spring 2025)

Tesla is offering an internship opportunity in Manufacturing Automation Controls Engineering for the Powertrain division, starting around January or February 2025 and continuing through the entire Spring term (i.e., through May 2025) or into Spring/Summer 2025 if available. This full-time, on-site internship requires a minimum commitment of 12 weeks.

The internship is based at the Giga Nevada location in Sparks, NV. As an intern, you'll work under the guidance of a controls engineer to design and implement machine program functionality on manufacturing lines that produce Tesla's key technological advantages: battery packs, drive units, and power electronics and energy products (Superchargers, Powerwalls, Megapacks).

Key responsibilities include:

  • Programming PLCs using ladder logic and structured text (Siemens and Beckhoff)
  • Creating intuitive operator touchscreen interfaces (WinCC, Ignition, TwinCAT HMI)
  • Designing industrial electrical panels, field wiring, and machine safety circuits (ePLAN, AutoCAD)
  • Programming machinery for material pick-and-place, fastening, dispensing, conveyance, etc.
  • Interfacing machinery with MES and reporting results to quality databases
  • Programming vision cameras for inspection and 2D/3D machinery guidance (Cognex, Keyence)
  • Programming and interfacing with industrial 6-axis robots (Fanuc, Kuka)

Ideal candidates should be pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Science, or a related field. They should have programming proficiency in PLC or industrial controllers, hands-on experience with electro-mechanical devices, and familiarity with common hand and diagnostic tools.

Tesla offers a comprehensive benefits package for full-time interns, including medical, dental, and vision plans, 401(k), Employee Stock Purchase Plans, and various other financial and wellness benefits.

Join Tesla's team to build the machines producing world-leading products and contribute to accelerating the world's transition to sustainable energy.
