Tesla is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer Intern to join their Vehicle Hardware team for Winter/Spring 2025. This exciting opportunity spans across multiple crucial teams including Autopilot and Electronics Product Design, Low Voltage Wire Harness, and Autopilot Hardware teams. The intern will be immersed in designing, testing, and prototyping mechanical components for Tesla's innovative vehicle programs.

The role offers a unique blend of mechanical engineering and interdisciplinary work, challenging interns to develop creative solutions while maintaining rigorous quality standards and cost-efficiency. Working from either Palo Alto, CA or Austin, TX, the intern will collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners on critical projects that directly impact Tesla's success.

Responsibilities For Internship, Mechanical Design Engineer, Vehicle Hardware (Winter/Spring 2025)

  • Design, test, and prototype mechanical components for Tesla vehicles
  • Work on mechanical design and integration of electronics modules
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners and external vendors
  • Perform simulations and analyses before releasing designs
  • Conduct DFM reviews with suppliers
  • Support tooling implementation
  • Run validation tests and perform data analysis
  • Provide factory engineering support

Requirements For Internship, Mechanical Design Engineer, Vehicle Hardware (Winter/Spring 2025)

Linux
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Design, Mechatronics, or related field
  • CAD design experience for detailed parts and master model assemblies
  • Ability to perform tolerance analysis and Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
  • Experience with 2D drawings for high-volume production
  • Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
  • Hands-on prototyping and testing skills
  • Must be able to work full-time (40 hours/week) and on-site
  • Minimum commitment of 12 weeks
