Description For Mechanical Design Engineer, Aerodynamic Prototype, New Programs

Tesla is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for their Aerodynamic Prototype team to support the design, build & test of physical models in coordination with the Aerodynamics Engineering team. This role offers the rare opportunity to participate in the development of new & genuinely cutting-edge vehicles. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal & communication skills, able to balance tight deadlines with demanding engineering requirements, and establish & maintain professional working relationships with various teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing & creating build plans for wind tunnel models
  • Identifying & securing resources for test properties
  • Executing build plans and coordinating the build of test properties
  • Performing hand calculations & FEA to justify mechanical design decisions
  • Assisting in developing & validating novel airflow management features
  • Working with various teams to create, assemble, instrument & test high fidelity wind tunnel models
  • Innovating and improving processes continuously

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Expertise in complex surface geometry creation and CAD software (preferably CATIA)
  • Strong understanding of rapid prototyping methods
  • Willingness to travel 10% of working days
  • Experience with wind tunnel testing and track testing is preferred
