Description For Mechanical Design Engineer, Vehicle Cameras

Tesla is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join their Vehicle Camera Team. This role is crucial in the development of camera hardware for Tesla vehicles, encompassing the entire lifecycle from sensor evaluation to platform integration. The ideal candidate will drive mechanical design of camera modules and their integration across vehicle platforms.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define product requirements and develop solutions for Full Self-Driving (FSD) functional performance
  • Performing various analyses including tolerance analysis, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), and camera modeling using ANSYS SPEOS
  • Developing CAD designs for detailed parts and master model assemblies
  • Creating 2D drawings for high-volume production and inspection methods
  • Conducting Design for Manufacturing (DFM) reviews with suppliers and supporting tooling bring-up
  • Running validation tests and performing data analysis
  • Coordinating offsite testing for system characterization and technology development
  • Providing production support to identify and resolve issues

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of sensor integration for vehicles, with trucking platform experience preferred
  • Expertise in designing plastic injection molded, sheet metal stamping, and cast parts
  • Proficiency in CAD, preferably CATIA
  • Experience in drafting 2D drawings with GD&T
  • Experience with FEA, preferably ANSYS
  • Camera and lighting simulation experience in SPEOS or equivalent
