Description For Reliability Engineer, Drive Inverters, Semi

Tesla is seeking a Reliability Engineer for drive inverters with a strong background in high voltage power modules and components (MOSFETs, IGBTs, etc) to work on their Tesla Semi product. This role involves designing reliability into drive inverters, following the reliability lifecycle from concept to field operation. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams, identify risks, create test plans, and provide reliability analyses. Key responsibilities include applying reliability methods to design accelerated test plans, analyzing field usage and environmental conditions, facilitating FMEA sessions, working on root cause analysis, and providing reliability design guidelines. The ideal candidate should have a degree in Electrical Engineering, 2+ years of experience in power electronics testing, and a strong understanding of reliability methods and statistics. Responsibilities For Reliability Engineer, Drive Inverters, Semi

  • Apply solid knowledge of reliability methods and power electronics / high voltage systems to design accelerated test plans
  • Analyze field usage and environmental conditions to optimize requirement setting and test methods
  • Facilitate and lead design FMEA sessions to assess product risks, determine validation test plans and drive reliable design choices
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify root causes and drive resolution for failures
  • Generate process validation test plans to implement at suppliers
  • Drive root cause corrective action with suppliers to resolve production process issues
  • Provide reliability design guidelines and apply reliability lessons learned to enable continuous improvement

Requirements For Reliability Engineer, Drive Inverters, Semi

Java
Python
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 2+ years of experience working in power electronics / high voltage laboratory testing environment
  • PCB Board level experience with the ability to read and communicate PCBA schematics
  • Experience with burn-in testing, Environmental Stress Screening (ESS), Ongoing Reliability Testing (ORT)
  • Understanding of Highly Accelerated testing methods and governing equations for different types of acceleration models
  • Experience with developing reliability guidelines and inventing novel ways of reliability testing
  • Working knowledge of reliability statistics including Weibull analysis, and experience with statistical software such as JMP, Minitab, etc.
  • Working knowledge of failure analysis techniques such as optical microscopy, SEM, CSAM, X-ray, cross-sectioning and EDX
  • Self-driven and focused individual with a proven ability to manage parallel tasks effectively
  • Proven ability to remain engaged, proactive, and positive in tough circumstances
