Description For Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer, Automated Test Equipment, Tesla Bot

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated hands-on Mechanical Engineer for a position in the Manufacturing Test Engineering group as part of the "machine that builds the machine". The role focuses on creating robust, beautiful, data-centric production testing equipment for Tesla's power electronic components in vehicle, stationary storage, humanoid robot, and charging products.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Architecting automated test equipment and producing detailed CAD models
  • Conceptual equipment development balancing various requirements
  • Identifying and implementing performance improvements
  • Analyzing system constraints and proposing innovative solutions
  • Supporting building, debugging, and validation efforts
  • Conducting detailed testing and validation of installed machinery
  • Performing on-site and off-site acceptance testing of equipment

The role requires a degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience, 6+ years of experience in relevant fields, and strong skills in various engineering software and practices. Responsibilities For Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer, Automated Test Equipment, Tesla Bot

  • Architect automated test equipment, produce detailed-level CAD models, pneumatic diagrams, and verify designs
  • Conceptual equipment development balancing product specifications, process requirements, layout complexity, cost, and lead-time limits
  • Identify and implement performance, robustness, and ease of assembly improvements
  • Analyze system constraints and propose innovative solutions
  • Support building, debugging, validation and equipment duplication efforts
  • Conduct detailed testing and validation of installed machinery
  • Perform on-site and off-site acceptance testing (SAT/FAT) of test equipment

Requirements For Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer, Automated Test Equipment, Tesla Bot

Python
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 6+ years of experience as Mechanical/Mechatronics/Automation Engineer
  • Experience transitioning products and processes from prototype to production
  • Knowledge in solid mechanics, pneumatics, hydraulics, dynamics, material selection, prototyping, testing methods, machining, and fabrication processes
  • Exposure to sensors, microcontrollers, robots, relays
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Versed in SolidWorks, PDM, and Ansys, or similar CAD/CAE software
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally
