Tesla's Structural Design team within Battery Engineering is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to join their passionate group of engineers in Palo Alto, California. This role is crucial in improving designs for current vehicles and defining designs for future ones. The ideal candidate will have strong engineering fundamentals, problem-solving skills, and the ability to collaborate across teams.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Integrating vehicle and battery cell designs
  • Enhancing vehicle safety and reliability
  • Partnering with manufacturing teams to develop new processes and materials
  • Serving as a local design authority for various engineering processes
  • Conducting on-site testing and coordinating validation efforts
  • Performing root-cause analysis and implementing corrective actions
  • Collaborating with Manufacturing, Process, and Quality teams
  • Driving product improvements in cost and complexity reduction
  • Creating 3D designs and GD&T drawings for complex parts and assemblies

The role requires strong engineering fundamentals in materials and mechanics, CAD modeling skills (CATIA V5/3DX is a plus), and a detail-oriented personality. Experience in high-volume manufacturing is valued but not required.   • Integrate vehicle and battery cell designs
  • Enhance vehicle safety and reliability
  • Partner with manufacturing teams to develop new processes and materials
  • Serve as local design authority for line launches, design-changes, and root-cause analysis
  • Conduct on-site component and system level testing
  • Perform root-cause and corrective analysis for design issues
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Process, and Quality teams to solve yield barriers and scrap issues
  • Drive product improvements (cost, complexity reductions)
  • Create 3D designs and GD&T drawings of complex parts and assemblies

Requirements For Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer, Battery Engineering, Structural Design

  • Strong engineering fundamentals in materials and mechanics
  • Demonstrated ability to actively find problems and solutions
  • Detail-oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills
  • Strong experience in CAD modeling (CATIA V5/3DX is a plus but not required)
