Tesla is seeking a Tool & Die Engineer for the Press Model Y Production Team at their Gigafactory in Austin, TX (GFTX). The ideal candidate will be responsible for production dies, process planning for new and existing projects, working with Stamping Engineering, Materials, Production teams, and Internal/External Die Vendors to deliver final products that meet cost, time, and quality targets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing die processes for parts to meet cost and quality targets
- Adhering to simulation guidelines and die design standards
- Providing recommendations for solving process and feasibility issues
- Assessing automation blank loading and transfer arms
- Directing tool changes to tune dies for capability and repeatability
- Ensuring dies meet production process intent
- Performing vendor die design reviews
- Overseeing work packages through to home line activities
- Developing inventory for spare details, punches, and buttons
- Ensuring production readiness of dies, scrap shed, SPM, and no burrs/slivers
The ideal candidate should have:
- Good understanding of press/stamping processes and die design
- Knowledge of material properties for aluminum and steel
- 2+ years of simulation / die design experience (preferred in class 'A' parts, aluminum & steel, die build/tryout)
- Drive, energy, and willingness to think outside the box
- Ability to work with and lead others in a collaborative team environment
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Project
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
