Description For Software Developer, Platform Core (Coop) - W2025

theScore, a wholly-owned subsidiary of PENN Entertainment, is seeking a Software Developer for their Platform Core team. This co-op position is for the Winter 2025 term (January 6, 2025 - April 25, 2025) in Toronto, ON.

As part of the Platform Core team, you'll work on building internal software libraries and tools to empower other backend teams. The focus is on improving scalability, reliability, and enhancing the developer experience. You'll collaborate with smart, friendly, and dedicated Engineers and Technical Product Managers to shape the future of theScore's backend architecture.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing and building foundational components to improve reliability and scalability of backend services
  • Creating internal tools and libraries to accelerate other backend teams
  • Collaborating with other teams to ensure their needs are met
  • Contributing to improving software development across the organization

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A solid foundation in computer science, including data structures, algorithms, and software design
  • Passion for clean code architecture and software craftsmanship
  • Experience with modern web frameworks and consuming APIs
  • Familiarity with Git and GitHub or similar version control systems
  • Interest in designing, building, and optimizing distributed systems
  • Excellent communication skills, including technical writing abilities
  • Enthusiasm for building services and tools for other developers
