Description For Sr. Application Engineer, CNC & Sheet Metal

Xometry (NASDAQ: XMTR) is seeking an experienced CNC machining cost estimator for their Pre-Sales Engineering team. The ideal candidate will have 8-10 years of experience in a CNC machining quoting environment. This role involves client quoting, supplier sourcing, production planning, and supporting on-time order fulfillment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing engineering models/drawings to define manufacturing operations
  • Making proper estimations considering materials, tooling, manufacturing times, and equipment
  • Collaborating with various team members to satisfy end customers
  • Sourcing materials and finishes
  • CNC machining/manufacturing cost estimating for prototype, low volume, and high-volume quantities

Required knowledge and skills:

  • Extensive knowledge of CNC machining/manufacturing technologies
  • Experience with programming and setup of CNC machines (3/4/5 axis milling, CNC lathes, live tooling lathes, Swiss machines)
  • Knowledge of welding, grinding, wire EDM, assemblies, and finishing
  • Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T)
  • Ability to review customer RFQs, communicate with customers, and create detailed quote packages
  • Solid model manipulation and modification skills
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

Responsibilities For Sr. Application Engineer, CNC & Sheet Metal

  • Analyze engineering models/drawings to define manufacturing operations
  • Make proper estimations considering materials, tooling, manufacturing times, and equipment
  • Work closely with Machinists, Quality, Engineering, Management, and other team members
  • Source materials and finishes
  • Perform CNC machining/manufacturing cost estimating for various production volumes
  • Review customer RFQs to determine material requirements and job routing
  • Communicate with customers to define requirements and expectations
  • Work with outside vendors/services to achieve optimal prices and solutions
  • Consolidate outside costs and internal costs for process time in engineering, manufacturing, finishing, and QC
  • Create detailed quote packages for final review
  • Manage quote logs daily and track KPIs

Requirements For Sr. Application Engineer, CNC & Sheet Metal

  • 8-10 years of experience in CNC machining quoting environment
  • CAD proficiency
  • Experience with CNC machining/manufacturing (multiple axis milling, turning, welding, grinding, EDM)
  • Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T)
  • Experience with sourcing materials and finishes
  • Ability to analyze engineering models/drawings
  • Strong communication skills
  • Experience with programming and setup of CNC machines
  • Knowledge of welding, grinding, wire EDM, assemblies, and finishing
  • Ability to review customer RFQs and create detailed quote packages
